Cengild G.I. Medical Centre Launches Anti-Smoking Campaign and Wellness Lounge
Kuala Lumpur, 10 July 2024, Wednesday – Cengild G.I. Medical Centre, in collaboration with key healthcare organisations, launched its Anti-Smoking Campaign and inaugurated the Wellness Lounge. The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Puan Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, alongside distinguished guests from the Malaysian Council for Tobacco Control (MCTC), National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), and Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Federal Territory Health Department (JKWPKLP).
Cengild’s CEO, Ms. Lily Yap, emphasised the urgency of tackling smoking-related diseases and the importance of this campaign in promoting a healthier community. “Smoking remains a major public health issue, claiming millions of lives annually. This campaign aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in our effort to combat tobacco use.”
She highlighted the severe health risks associated with smoking, including cancer, gastrointestinal diseases, liver complications, respiratory disorders, and cardiovascular conditions. As a healthcare leader, Cengild aims to prevent these diseases through education, awareness, and advocacy.
The Anti-Smoking Campaign is a step towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, encouraging smokers to quit and raising awareness of smoking-related risks. The newly launched Wellness Lounge further supports Cengild’s commitment to preventive healthcare and holistic patient care.
The event concluded with a strong message of collective responsibility in advocating for a smoke-free environment, especially for children and young adults. Ms. Lily Yap urged healthcare professionals, policymakers, and citizens to take an active role in promoting healthier lifestyles.
Cengild G.I. Medical Centre extends its gratitude to all partners, sponsors, and contributors for making this initiative a success. Together, we can build a healthier future.
