Gastrointestinal Surgery Treatment for Digestive System Disorders
Gastrointestinal surgery is a treatment for diseases that affect the organs involved in digestion. These include the oesophagus (food pipe), stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and rectum. The liver, gallbladder, and pancreas are also part of this system.
Surgery may be done to remove cancerous or noncancerous growths, or to take out damaged parts of the digestive tract, such as a section of the intestine. It can also be used to fix conditions like a hernia, which is a weakness or opening in the abdominal wall. In some cases, minor surgical procedures are used to help screen for or diagnose problems in the digestive system.
